The Cleveland Museum of Natural History will visit Burton as part of our Adult Education Series!!
Dr. Redmond of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will present “New and Old Archaeology of the Ancient Earthwork Builders of Northeast Ohio” on June 6th at 7:30pm in the Bond building on Century Village Museum grounds.
Before the coming of Europeans, Native Americans of northeast Ohio built small mounds for burial and other cer…emonial uses. Sites with other kinds of earthworks are much less common, and most have been identified as ancient fortifications of one kind or another. Were these earthwork enclosures really ancient forts or something else? Dr. Brian Redmond of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will discuss some of the more recent archaeological discoveries that are beginning to reveal the true complexity of these special places on the prehistoric landscape. In addition, two excavations from Geauga County will be discussed!
This program is open to the public and costs $5 for non-members, and is free for members of Century Village Museum. Tickets may be purchased in the Crossroads Museum Store on pre-sale or before the program.
